Blaser Recalls R93 Hunting Rifles

Blaser Rifles, imported by Sigarms, has announced a safety recall of all Blaser R93 hunting rifles. Sigarms warns that use of the R93 rifle may result in an accident, severe injury or death.

According to Sigarms, the recall is being conducted to inspect the rifle's trigger assembly.

"The R93 trigger assembly uses stainless steel pins for corrosion resistance. We have learned that a small number of non-stainless steel pins were inadvertently used in some R93s," Sigarms officials said. "An accidental discharge from the off-safe position may occur if an R93 with non-stainless steel pins is used and pins have corroded due to moisture. In this situation, once the firing pin has been cocked (into the off-safe position), the rifle may discharge."

According to Sigarms the UIT, CISM and LRS/LRS2 rifles are not affected by this recall.

Sigarms is asking all owners of Blaser R93 rifles to return the firearm to the company's headquarters in New Hampshire for inspection. Owners should call 1-877-422-7671 between 8 AM and 5 PM EST. They will be informed on how to send the rifles to Sigarms and given an estimated time for the rifle's return.

According to Sigarms, all R93's trigger housing and trigger subassembly will be inspected. All non-stainless steel pins will be replaced. To indicate the R93 has been inspected and certified, a "P" inside a circle will be placed on the left side of the trigger. In addition, the firearms will be cleaned and certified ready for operation.

"We will return your serviced R93 to you along with an expression of our appreciation. We recognize the inconvenience this situation causes our Blaser R93 customers and offer you our sincerest apologies. We are passionate about your safety and we are confident that you would expect nothing less from Blaser," Sigarms officials said.
